The mathematics department provides undergraduate programs culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree with a mathematics major. These degree programs feature specialized tracks in applied mathematics, discrete mathematics/operations research, statistics, or general mathematics. The Bachelor of Science program offers an enhanced curriculum, delivering deeper engagement with mathematical concepts, computational methods, and scientific principles. Prospective mathematics majors should meet with an advisor from the Mathematics and Statistics Department to develop a tailored academic plan in mathematics or statistics.
Graduates will develop the ability to:
apply problem-solving and modeling techniques, recognizing the interplay between practical applications and theoretical foundations. This involves converting real-world challenges into mathematical frameworks, employing analytical methods to derive solutions, and interpreting results in practical contexts.
understand and construct mathematical proofs, developing skills to formulate precise logical arguments.
utilize computational tools effectively for problem-solving and hypothesis testing through technological applications.
