Geological engineering is a cross-disciplinary field that integrates principles from physics, chemistry, meteorology, hydrology, biology, geology, and engineering to study Earth's systems, mitigate environmental risks, responsibly manage natural resources, and investigate our planet's place in the cosmos. The program aims to develop professionals equipped with specialized skills for tackling multifaceted technical challenges.
Students must consult their advisors each semester for program approval and academic progress evaluations.
Due to extensive shared coursework, students majoring in Geological Sciences and Engineering cannot pursue a minor within the same department.
Graduates will demonstrate:
competency in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex engineering issues using scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles.
skills in engineering design to develop solutions addressing specific requirements while considering public safety, health, environmental impacts, and socioeconomic factors.
effective communication abilities across diverse audiences.
understanding of ethical obligations and professional accountability in engineering decisions, weighing global environmental, economic, and societal implications.
teamwork proficiency, including leadership, collaboration, goal-setting, and task coordination.
capability to design experiments, evaluate data, and make evidence-based engineering decisions.
capacity for continuous learning and knowledge application through effective strategies.
expertise in mineral and rock identification, along with geological science applications in engineering contexts.
