Students pursuing the Design/Technology Specialization benefit from personalized instruction and guidance as they train for backstage technical roles, scenic and costume construction, lighting operation, stage management, and theatrical design. Following foundational coursework and hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art lighting, scenery, and costume facilities, students concentrate their studies in two of three disciplines: scenic design, lighting design, or costume design. Advanced coursework allows students to further specialize in one or both chosen fields. The program also encourages interdisciplinary exploration through elective courses in other design/technical disciplines or theater arts. This specialization offers ambitious undergraduates the chance to design for mainstage productions, developing real-world skills in budgeting, creative collaboration, and design implementation. Graduates emerge fully equipped for professional careers or advanced academic study in theater production.
