Spanish, the second most spoken native language globally and the most common after English in the U.S., opens doors to countless opportunities for learners. With its vibrant cultural legacy spanning three continents, Spanish plays a vital role in today's interconnected, diverse world. Our Spanish department faculty dedicate themselves to equipping students with cultural knowledge, analytical abilities, and language skills essential for thriving in our complex global landscape. The major encompasses core studies in writing, culture, language structure, and literature, supplemented by diverse electives like advanced grammar, professional Spanish, conversation classes, film studies, media, translation, interpretation, and service-learning options. The curriculum fulfills five Silver Core requirements: CO10 through 14. We collaborate closely with the University Studies Abroad Consortium, providing accredited programs at institutions throughout Spain and Latin America. Graduates enter various professions—from business and education to law and healthcare—while others continue their studies through our graduate programs in Spanish.
