Ball State's French program equips you with fluency in one of the world's most elegant romance languages. Graduates emerge ready for diverse careers in government, commerce, legal fields, media, and beyond—or for advanced academic pursuits. French majors enjoy these additional advantages: enhanced comprehension of English, as more than 60% of English vocabulary originates from French; mastery of a globally significant language (and key tongue for European legal and diplomatic affairs); proficiency in the language of a leading global economy; and deep insight into France's foundational contributions to Western civilization, spanning philosophy, arts, literature, cinema, political theory, and cultural heritage. The curriculum builds linguistic proficiency alongside studies of Francophone cultures and literary traditions.
