Exploring timeless traditions of questioning reality and the meaning of life alongside modern examinations of diverse academic fields, philosophy tackles essential aspects of human existence. Philosophy students develop careful, critical thinking skills, engage with complex texts, and gain deeper insight into how everything fundamentally connects (as one prominent philosopher described it). This major provides exceptional training for careers that value clarity of thought and expression.

Students will develop the ability to:
articulate a philosophical position about a text or issue, justify it with evidence and reasoning, and respond to opposing views.
understand and interpret key philosophical concepts, thinkers, and traditions while examining core areas of philosophical study.
evaluate arguments effectively, identifying strong reasoning and recognizing logical connections.
clarify the significance of abstract debates, both historical and current, and demonstrate how philosophical perspectives influence theory or real-world applications.
