Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with a Justice Studies concentration gain a social science education that equips them for diverse justice-oriented professions, advanced academic pursuits, or legal studies. This Criminal Justice program is ideal for those seeking comprehensive knowledge of justice systems and criminal justice principles. Although the BA in Criminal Justice offers various concentrations, all tracks begin with two years of core education and fundamental criminal justice coursework. These foundational classes deliver essential insights into America's criminal justice framework. During the final two years, students choose a specialization, such as Justice Studies, which examines societal inequalities, injustices, and transformative approaches to enhance justice.
Justice Studies students engage with criminal justice curriculum focused on developing equitable systems that protect communities and uphold fairness. Additionally, they complete 21 units of interdisciplinary coursework exploring societal justice challenges, organized into four thematic clusters: Social Identities, Ethics & Rights, Conflict & Resolution, and Institutions, Systems, & Global Justice Issues.
Program graduates will demonstrate:
comprehensive awareness of criminal justice misconceptions and substantive understanding of problem-solving in diverse societies.
quantitative and qualitative research skills for data analysis and program evaluation.
advanced critical thinking and writing abilities across analytical, program development, and assessment contexts, drawing from multiple knowledge traditions.
strong ethical foundations to navigate complex professional scenarios with integrity.
ongoing self-reflection skills necessary for effective practice within America's diverse racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic landscape.
