The UNLV Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides a Ph.D. program in Engineering with a specialization in Electrical Engineering. Key research areas encompass Communications, Computer Engineering, Control System Theory, Electromagnetics and Optics, Power Systems, Signal Processing, and Solid State Materials and Devices. Admission to the Ph.D. program follows two pathways: The Conventional Option mandates completion of an M.S. Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering first, while the Direct Ph.D. Option permits exceptional undergraduates to bypass the master's degree requirement. Regardless of entry path, all doctoral candidates must fulfill Ph.D. requirements beyond their B.S. Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, except for completing a Master's thesis.
