The Art Department provides students with visual arts training as a key component of a well-rounded education. Our degree programs deliver rigorous professional instruction in visual arts theory and practice. Students gain both technical abilities and intellectual understanding to establish a foundation for future artistic and professional success.
UNLV's BFA program requires an additional year of focused study, allowing students to deepen their creative and technical development. Entry into the BFA program is determined through portfolio evaluation.
The Photography concentration equips students with comprehensive technical, creative, conceptual, and professional competencies needed to succeed in photography's dynamic field. Students explore both traditional and experimental methods, mastering film and digital technologies while emphasizing photography as fine art. As they refine their technical and conceptual abilities, students cultivate a distinctive photographic voice and compile a portfolio showcasing their unique vision. Upon BFA admission, students create an advanced thesis project that integrates program teachings through visual, verbal, and written presentations, demonstrating their acquired mastery.
