The 60-credit Master of Science program specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) encompasses the necessary coursework and practical training (practicum/internships) for becoming a licensed mental health practitioner in Nebraska. By taking two extra elective courses (COUN 8686 & COUN 8696), students can also meet the academic prerequisites for provisional licensure in Alcohol and Drug Counseling (LADC) within the state.
The University of Nebraska Omaha's (UNO) Counseling Department provides a Master of Science degree with specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling (P-12), and Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education.
Our department's mission is to educate a varied student body at the graduate level, equipping them for careers as school counselors, clinical mental health practitioners, student affairs specialists, or for further academic pursuits. Program alumni gain the skills to excel professionally within their chosen specialization.
As committed professionals, thoughtful researchers, and engaged community members, our graduates meet the demand for skilled practitioners. They receive training to address diverse counseling requirements in urban settings, including services for individuals, couples, families, and groups.
