The Master of Arts (MA) program is a 30-credit non-terminal graduate degree focused on fostering research skills and independent study. Ideal for students planning to eventually pursue doctoral studies, this degree requires candidates to produce and defend a thesis. The thesis represents an original scholarly work meeting faculty standards, overseen by a committee of three professors, typically completed over two semesters.
This program equips students with essential research capabilities to advance scientific understanding in criminology and criminal justice.
The curriculum consists of eight graduate courses (24 credits) plus a Thesis component (6 credits).
The thesis involves conducting novel research that adds to existing criminology knowledge, culminating in a public defense where students present their significant discoveries.
Graduates frequently continue to Ph.D. programs or secure research and analyst positions in criminal justice institutions.
