The proposed certificate program aims to offer post-baccalaureate training that equips students for advanced clinical education, including preparation for medical, dental, pharmaceutical, physician assistant, or veterinary programs. Unlike the MS in biology, which focuses on comprehensive biological research exposure, this certificate provides specialized guidance through UNO's Health Careers Resource Center (HCRC) for both professional and academic planning.
Original research forms a core component of both thesis and non-thesis degree paths. Faculty specialties span diverse biological disciplines such as ecology, physiology, genetics, molecular biology, taxonomy, behavioral studies, and developmental biology across multiple organisms. The MS program readies graduates for careers in industrial, governmental, or academic settings, as well as advanced studies in professional degrees like PhD or MD programs.
