The Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) program has maintained uninterrupted accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education since 1975. The Grace Abbott School of Social Work aims to train students as skilled social workers who assist individuals across all age groups and shape impactful systems, generate knowledge through academic pursuits, and collaborate with varied communities to foster equitable societies.
The BSSW curriculum equips graduates for entry-level social work positions in diverse social service environments. This qualification enables graduates to obtain the Certified Social Worker (CSW) designation in Nebraska and meets licensure requirements in other states that certify BSSW practitioners. Additionally, it provides a foundation for pursuing advanced social work degrees like the MSW.
Social work attracts individuals passionate about enhancing lives. Practitioners advocate for equity, foster community connections, and empower marginalized groups facing poverty or oppression. This field offers diverse career paths, allowing specialization with specific populations, work environments, or focus areas like policy development and research. Social work ranks among America's most rapidly expanding professions.
Professionals find employment across multiple sectors including healthcare facilities, mental health clinics, child protection services, educational institutions, crisis intervention centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, and various government agencies at all levels.
