The Department of Psychology provides both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree options. These programs share identical psychology course requirements, focusing on research training through a four-course sequence that culminates in a specialized laboratory experience across six psychological domains: learning, cognition, development, sensation and perception, behavioral neuroscience, or animal behavior. While the B.A. and B.S. programs have distinct additional requirements (detailed below), both effectively prepare students for psychology graduate studies. Students can optionally pursue one of seven specialized concentrations: cognitive science, developmental psychology, forensic psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, mental health, neuroscience and behavior, or school psychology. Each concentration requires at least 12 credit hours, and students may select only one concentration if desired.
