Philosophy explores the world through a comprehensive and unified lens. Philosophers seek answers to fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, ethics, divinity, and how these elements interconnect. A key benefit of studying philosophy lies in its methodological rigor—meticulous reasoning, logical precision, and deep conceptual analysis—which can be applied across all disciplines.
Students can pursue a philosophy major through three pathways: (1) the traditional track covers essential topics like logic, ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology; (2) the philosophy of brains, minds, and machines concentration examines intersections between philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, and technology; and (3) the ethics, law, and social/political philosophy concentration delves into moral foundations, legal principles, environmental responsibilities, and related issues. The philosophy minor provides flexible elective options, while the interdisciplinary ethics minor pairs well with nearly any other degree program.
