The School of Music forms one of three academic units within the College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media. Housed in the recently upgraded Janet A. and Willis S. Strauss Performing Arts Center, the facility sits adjacent to the university's central campanile featuring a forty-seven-bell carillon. This state-of-the-art complex features a 420-seat adjustable concert venue, a 100-seat recital space, exceptional soundproofing, professional recording facilities, and modern instructional and practice areas. The center functions as a cultural hub for both campus and Omaha communities.
With 45 faculty members (both full-time and adjunct), the School maintains accreditation through the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Academic programs include Bachelor of Music degrees in performance and K-12 education, plus Bachelor of Arts options with specializations in music studies, jazz performance, audio technology, and music business.
