The Center for Biological Chemistry (CBC) provides an interdisciplinary graduate program with diverse research opportunities spanning plant biochemistry, photosynthesis studies, metabolic processes in plants and animals, metallobiochemistry, enzyme function, cancer biology, redox systems, and molecular biology. Faculty from biochemistry and collaborating departments—including animal science, agronomy, chemistry, and biological sciences—support the program. Teaching and research activities are primarily conducted in the George W. Beadle Center for Genetics and Biomaterials Research, which features cutting-edge laboratories for department-affiliated faculty. The facility also hosts core resources from the Center for Biotechnology and Redox Biology Center, such as mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, plant transformation, and microscopy services. Additional amenities include a comprehensive plant growth and greenhouse facility, along with advanced equipment for fluorescence-activated cell sorting, surface plasmon resonance, analytical ultracentrifugation, and next-generation DNA sequencing.
