Our graduate programs cover all specified fields of study, with options to specialize in ethnic studies, Great Plains studies, human rights and humanitarian affairs, 19th-century studies, and women's and gender studies. Additionally, we provide certification programs in Digital Humanities and the Teaching of Writing.
Students can pursue various professional growth opportunities, such as building scholarly and teaching portfolios, joining critical/literary discussion groups, attending fiction and poetry readings, and working alongside faculty on research, teaching, and creative projects.
The department is home to several renowned journals and initiatives, such as Prairie Schooner—a nationally acclaimed literary publication—The Western American Literature Journal, and the Quarterly Review of Film and Video. Other notable projects include the Walt Whitman Archive, the Cather Project, the Nebraska Writing Project, the Nebraska Literacy Project, the Corvey Collection of 19th Century British Literature, and the Studies in Writing and Rhetoric Monograph Series. Graduate students frequently enhance their academic journey by contributing to these significant departmental endeavors.
