The University of Nebraska-Lincoln provides three graduate programs in architectural engineering, located at the Peter Kiewit Institute of Information Science, Technology, and Engineering (PKI) in Omaha, Nebraska—approximately 50 miles northeast of Lincoln. The Master of Architectural Engineering (M.A.E.) is designed mainly for graduates holding a Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering from the University of Nebraska. This professional degree combines coursework with design projects, culminating in a graduate project. The curriculum focuses on three key areas: (1) lighting and electrical systems, (2) building energy systems and acoustics, and (3) structural engineering. Numerous professional organizations and student groups are active on campus, such as the Acoustical Society of America, the University of Nebraska Student Branch of the Architectural Engineering Institute, the UNL Architectural Engineering Construction Student Outreach Program (AECSOP), and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
