Materials engineering focuses on studying and utilizing core principles of physics, chemistry, and engineering to design, innovate, and implement advanced materials with enhanced characteristics for manufacturing and engineering applications. The exploration, study, advancement, and practical use of materials have driven technological adoption, affordability, breakthroughs, and enhancements across healthcare, transportation, communication, safety, household, and entertainment sectors. At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, scholars and researchers from four departments (Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, and Mechanical Engineering) engage in both independent and collaborative work within materials engineering.
