The Center for Biological Chemistry (CBC) provides an interdisciplinary graduate program with research opportunities spanning multiple fields such as plant biochemistry, photosynthesis studies, metabolic processes in plants and animals, metallobiochemistry, enzyme function, cancer research, redox biology, and molecular biology. Faculty from biochemistry and collaborating departments including animal science, agronomy, chemistry, and biological sciences support the program. Teaching activities are concentrated in labs and classrooms at the George W. Beadle Center for Genetics and Biomaterials Research. This facility hosts most department-affiliated faculty in cutting-edge research labs along with core resources from the Center for Biotechnology and Redox Biology Center. Available resources encompass mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, plant transformation, and microscopy services. The center also features a comprehensive plant growth and greenhouse facility, plus specialized equipment for cell sorting, surface plasmon resonance analysis, ultracentrifugation, and advanced DNA sequencing technologies.
