The Department of Biochemistry provides programs for earning either a Bachelor of Science (BS) or a combined Bachelor's and Master's degree (BS and MS) in biochemistry. This education prepares students for professional roles in biochemistry, opening doors to careers in industries dealing with chemical production, food processing, animal feed, pharmaceuticals, or government organizations like the FDA, USDA, U.S. Public Health Service, and EPA. Additionally, the program serves as excellent preparation for advanced studies in biochemistry, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and other health-related professions. Accredited by the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), the department allows graduating seniors who pass the ASBMB certification exam to obtain a formally recognized degree.
