Our graduate program offers adaptable coursework, enabling students to focus on their preferred sociology specializations. Regardless of your academic path, you'll graduate with robust training in sociological theory and research methodologies.
With cohorts typically ranging from five to ten students in a department without a PhD program, our Master's program ensures significantly more faculty attention than larger institutions.
Every sociology professor holds a PhD in the field, with three of our four full-time faculty members additionally specializing in criminology. Our faculty members have obtained substantial research funding from prestigious organizations like the National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Justice. Master's students can engage in faculty research through our criminology research team. The General Sociology graduate curriculum builds upon undergraduate sociology studies, emphasizing advanced theoretical and methodological training with practical applications to societal challenges. While students enjoy flexibility in pursuing their sociological interests, their focus areas should align with faculty expertise (see faculty research listings). We strongly recommend students collaborate with advisors to create personalized study plans.
