The Master of Science in American Indian Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for addressing challenges in Native American communities. This program enhances learners' capacity to implement their understanding across various sectors such as government, private organizations, and nonprofit entities.
Curriculum emphasizes indigenous languages, cultural traditions, artistic expressions, social movements, historical contexts, legal frameworks, and educational approaches through a Native American studies lens. Instruction occurs via on-campus classes.
The Indigenous Rights and Social Justice specialization examines colonization's lasting impact on tribal political systems, economic structures, and cultural practices. Participants critically assess legal frameworks, policy outcomes, and societal effects of tribal relations with different government levels while studying strategies employed by Native nations and individuals to advance Indigenous rights and social equity.
