The Cultural Heritage Option offers a pathway to obtain an MA in anthropology with a specialization in safeguarding cultural traditions, heritage, and human diversity. This program prepares graduates for careers in cultural preservation by providing a strong foundation in anthropological principles. The flexible curriculum allows students to explore diverse interests such as:

Archaeological fields like Cultural Resource Management, Historic Preservation, and Prehistoric Archaeology
Ethnographic studies including Ethnohistory, Tribal Recognition, and Language Retention
Public-facing disciplines such as Museology, Educational Anthropology, and Public Archaeology
Students work closely with faculty advisors to design a customized curriculum aligned with their professional aspirations. Emphasizing real-world application, the program may incorporate internships with relevant organizations. The culminating requirement involves producing a professional paper, exhibition, portfolio, or similar original work. Upon completing one of the designated program plans, students receive a Master of Arts in Anthropology with the Cultural Heritage specialization.

Qualification Requirements

Admission to the anthropology graduate programs is competitive and open to students with:

a Bachelors of Arts or Sciences degree,
a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for the M.A. degree program,
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores and optional GRE scores,
positive letters of recommendation,
and a statement of purpose that indicates professional goals compatible with the research specialties of the faculty.
There is no minimum GRE score, and GRE scores are only one measure used to assess an applicant's suitability for the program. Provisional admission may be offered for promising students who do not meet the GPA standards. If the Bachelor's degree is not in Anthropology, the student will work with their advisor to develop a course of instruction that includes developing a background in the four fields of Anthropology. For applicants whose native language is not English, the applicant must have a minimum TOEFL IBT (IBT Home Edition also accepted) 80, IELTS - 6.5
