The standard (Option 1) Ph.D. program develops experts in mathematical research. Our department provides specialized training in various fields including algebra, mathematical analysis (covering real, complex, and functional analysis), applied mathematics (encompassing biomathematics and differential equations), combinatorics & optimization, computer science (in collaboration with the CS department), and topology.
Our alternative (Option 2) Ph.D. program focuses on training future college mathematics instructors and broad mathematics practitioners. This path prioritizes wider course coverage over deep specialization compared to the standard program. Students can choose to concentrate on mathematics education within this option.

To be considered for admission to the graduate program, an applicant must submit:

Scores for the general GRE are not accepted as part of the application.
Three letters of recommendation, submitted by the writer via the Graduate School's online application process.
Official transcripts of all previous college work.
Content descriptions of all post calculus college-level mathematics courses completed along with grade received.
A Statement of Purpose.
Applicants for a Master's or a Ph.D. degree must have a Bachelor's degree by time of their enrollment. Note that a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics is not required though an extensive background in mathematics is expected.
Applicants whose native language is not English must submit an acceptable English language proficiency test score. For applicants whose native language is not English, the applicant must have a minimum TOEFL IBT (IBT Home Edition also accepted) 80, IELTS - 6.5
