The Doctor of Education represents the highest academic achievement in Educational Leadership studies. This rigorous doctoral program deepens understanding and capabilities in Educational Leadership while honing students' research abilities. It serves as the necessary qualification for those pursuing administrative or faculty roles in higher education or advancement opportunities within K-12 systems. Completion requires at least 90 academic credits plus one credit for the comprehensive examination. Students may transfer applicable credits from an approved Master's program, Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.), or post-Master's coursework toward their Ed.D. requirements. The primary focus area is Educational Leadership, with optional specializations in Curriculum Leadership, Higher Education, or Technology Leadership.
Candidates pursuing both an Ed.D. and Montana Administrative License must fulfill the state's Field Experience mandates. Specific details about these requirements are available on the Educational Leadership department's Field Experience webpage. For endorsement paperwork assistance, please reach out to the Department of Educational Leadership directly.
