The Bachelor of Science in Parks, Tourism & Recreation Management program equips students for careers in developing and overseeing outdoor recreation programs and park resources across public agencies, nonprofits, and the ecotourism sector. Degree candidates select either a Recreation Resources Management or Nature-Based Tourism specialization. The Recreation Resources Management track focuses on assessing and conserving wilderness areas to maintain their recreational, historical, and environmental importance. Meanwhile, the Nature-Based Tourism specialization explores the social, cultural, political, ecological, and economic dimensions of tourism in natural environments. Both paths teach essential processes and analytical skills for evaluating management options, making decisions, and implementing programs. The curriculum includes foundational courses on recreational land ecology alongside human behavior and administration studies. The program particularly focuses on real-world challenges faced when managing protected areas like national parks, state parks, wilderness zones, and other internationally significant recreational sites.
