Explore earth science within the stunning natural environment of Western Montana. The geosciences bachelor's program at UM teaches you about the forces that mold our planet and support human life, while developing essential field, computational, and communication abilities for career success.
Our program offers two specialized tracks: water and earth studies. Both examine the movement of energy and geological materials like water, minerals, sediments, and rocks—and their influence on worldwide patterns of water distribution, energy sources, soils, environmental risks, and nutrients.
Practical, field-oriented education forms the core of our approach. We prioritize research benefiting Montana communities while tackling worldwide challenges including water resources, climate change, geological assets, and environmental threats. Students can specialize in earth science education or participate in our international geosciences field programs with University College Cork in Ireland or Potsdam University in Germany.
