The University of Montana's School of Music is a vibrant hub for musicians, composers, teachers, and analytical minds, representing the university's finest qualities. This dynamic institution can launch your musical career through its wide array of ensembles, performance chances, varied curriculum, and distinguished faculty - whatever your aspirations, you'll discover an inspiring environment here. Currently, all university performances, lectures, and major gatherings are either canceled or delayed indefinitely. These restrictions affect all academic department events along with productions by Montana Repertory Theatre, exhibitions at the Montana Museum of Art and Culture, and activities hosted by Montana Media Lab. Events that can be adapted for online participation may proceed virtually, while postponements will be arranged when possible, though the timeline for resuming campus activities remains unclear.
Each year, the UM School of Music educates numerous music majors and minors while engaging thousands of university students and local musicians. As a pioneer in music instruction, performance, and creative work, it boasts faculty with global recognition and students who consistently earn accolades. With comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs, the school maintains accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music and hosts prestigious groups and events including the All-Star Band, Choir & Orchestra, Grizzly Marching Band, Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival, Vienna Program, UM Summer Music Camps, among other offerings.
