Oregon's composition program centers around a vibrant creative collective of 40-45 composers across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. Our holistic curriculum blends composition with music theory, historical studies, ethnomusicology, digital arts, modern performance techniques, cross-disciplinary projects, and professional development workshops. This carefully balanced program equips every student for successful careers in composition.
Numerous participants are skilled musicians, singers, and conductors who regularly showcase both their original works and pieces by their peers. Performance possibilities flourish through initiatives like the Oregon Composers Forum, Music Today Festival, Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium, Orchestra Composition Workshop, and Pacific Rim Gamelan, alongside five student-led contemporary music groups.
