Graduates from UM's teacher education program obtain their initial teaching certification and secure positions locally in Montana, nationwide, and abroad. You can pursue specializations like literacy, special education, or teacher-librarian roles by completing extra coursework and gaining practical classroom experience. Elementary education marks the beginning of formal schooling in the U.S., typically covering grades K-8. Your teaching location determines the specific grade range. As an elementary educator, you'll engage with diverse age groups, manage your own classroom, and deliver instruction across core subjects such as language arts, social studies, science, mathematics, and others.
