Qualification Requirements

Admissions requirements include an earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher, a completed UMSL Graduate School Application, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended and two letters of recommendation.

a. Successful applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree in education before beginning the master's
program.
Grade Point Average
a. Minimum of 3.0 on 4.0 scale
b. Students whose total undergraduate GPA and major GPA are between 2.75 and 2.99 may be admitted on a
restricted basis except in the following circumstances:
i. Admission requires GPAs of 2.75 or better in
1. a) the undergraduate major field,
2. b) education coursework, and
3. c) overall.
ii. Students with GPAs below 2.75 may submit supportive evidence and letters of recommendation. Students
entering with GPAs below 2.75 are admitted on restricted status and required to obtain a 3.0 graduate GPA
in their first 9 graduate hours.
Entrance examinations
a. There are no entrance exams for domestic students.
b. International students are required to document English proficiency by providing scores from an internationally
accepted standardized examination before a decision is made on admission.
Letters of recommendation
a May be invited for applicants who do not meet the normal criteria for admission.
