The 2+3 B.A./B.S. Education and M.A. in History program allows academically qualified students to earn both degrees in five years of full-time study. This accelerated track mandates completion of 15 lower-division credit hours before starting the three-year core program, along with prerequisite graduate-level coursework (5000-5999) for advanced readings (6000-6999). Upon fulfilling all requirements, students receive both their bachelor's and master's degrees simultaneously, with some completing the program in just ten semesters.
This dual-degree path requires 137 total credit hours, including 5 senior-level (HIST 4999) and 32 graduate-level credits (5000-6000 level courses). Students must satisfy all undergraduate major requirements for their B.A./B.S. Ed. while also meeting Graduate School standards, including the 32 graduate credit minimum.
When reaching 62 undergraduate credits (with 15 introductory History credits), eligible students may apply through the History Department's Graduate Director. Admission requires a 3.4 GPA in history courses, a writing sample, and three faculty recommendations. Provisional acceptance continues until completing 105 credits with a 3.0 GPA, after which full admission requires graduate director approval. The program excludes students with over 105 credits, and participants pay graduate tuition rates beyond this threshold. A sustained 3.0 GPA is mandatory, and students withdrawing from the program may still earn their bachelor's degree upon meeting standard requirements.
