Students pursuing studies in Evolutionary or Anatomical Sciences can specialize in this concentration within the Pathobiology Area Program. Our doctoral training adopts an adaptable, interdisciplinary model, supported by a tight-knit group of faculty from the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.
The University of Missouri (MU) stands out by offering centralized access to diverse campus resources, including the School of Medicine, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine, and Bond Life Sciences Center. This proximity enables students to utilize state-of-the-art facilities while pursuing interdisciplinary translational and evolutionary research.
Building upon the expertise of IA faculty, we integrate innovative methodologies from related pathobiology and life sciences programs. The campus hosts multiple research groups whose work aligns with IA's focus areas. Prospective PhD candidates in Anatomical Sciences should consult the Director of Graduate Studies prior to submitting their application.
The Anatomical Sciences PhD program mandates fulfillment of MU Graduate Studies requirements, which consist of 72 semester hours post-baccalaureate (including research credits), subject to advisor approval. Students may transfer up to 30 qualifying credits from accredited institutions. Additional program specifics are available through the MU Graduate School. The curriculum encompasses human gross anatomy, evolutionary biology, statistical methods, research ethics, along with journal clubs, teaching experiences, and outreach initiatives. Candidates must successfully complete comprehensive examinations, propose and defend original research, and ultimately present and defend their dissertation.
