The School of Natural Resources provides a single graduate program in natural resources, featuring seven specialized focus areas across various disciplines. These include water resources, agroforestry, human dimensions of natural resources, fisheries and wildlife sciences, forestry, parks, recreation, sport and tourism, as well as soil, environmental and atmospheric sciences.
The Human Dimensions of Natural Resources Emphasis (HDNR) explores research and management issues concerning human attitudes, knowledge, values, perceptions, and behaviors related to natural resources. This interdisciplinary program welcomes applicants with backgrounds in social sciences, environmental education, natural resource management, conservation, or similar fields. The MS degree is research-focused, requiring students to collaborate closely with faculty advisors to design research topics and study plans. Thesis candidates are encouraged to publish their results in academic journals, while a non-thesis alternative involves extra coursework and a research project.
