For both the MA and MS degrees, students must complete at least 30 graduate credit hours beyond their bachelor's degree (or equivalent). At least 15 of these 30 credits must come from 8000 or 9000-level courses, with no more than 40% of the total credits fulfilled through Research, Readings, and Problems courses.
Working with their graduate advisor, each student must register for designated core courses relevant to their degree program. The academic plan should be developed in collaboration with the advisor.
The MS program offers two options: a research-focused thesis OR a professional design project combining research and design. The MS concludes with a thesis that meets university standards, preparing students for advanced professional work or doctoral studies.
Research focuses on one of two specialization areas: (1) environment and behavior studies or (2) digital media design. Within these specializations, coursework is tailored based on subject matter and chosen research methodology: quantitative, qualitative, or a mixed approach.
