This program focuses on advancing performance abilities and comprehensive musicianship to equip graduates for professional careers in teaching or performance, or for pursuing doctoral studies.
The curriculum highlights repertoire and live performances, featuring three mandatory recitals. Students gain substantial chamber music experience alongside vocalists and instrumentalists, with opportunities in opera, choir, orchestra, and wind ensembles. Weekly piano performance classes with faculty are required for all master's students. MU boasts an impressive collection of well-maintained grand pianos, a digital piano lab, two harpsichords, and a fortepiano. Each year, renowned pianists like Boris Berman, Malcolm Bilson, Anne Epperson, Claude Frank, Peter Frankl, Ian Hobson, and Ralph Votapek conduct masterclasses exclusively for MU piano students.
