To obtain an MA degree, students need to fulfill 30 graduate-level credit hours, with a minimum of 15 credits from 8000-level courses or higher. For the Spanish emphasis MA program, the curriculum requires at least nine credit hours each in Spanish peninsular literature and Spanish-American literature. Additionally, students must complete three credit hours covering the history of the Spanish language (or its equivalent). Special readings (7960) and problems (8085) courses combined cannot surpass 12 credit hours, with no more than three special reading credits per semester in the major field. Graduate Instructors lacking pedagogical experience or prior coursework in foreign language teaching methods must enroll in SPAN 7120 Foreign Language Teaching Methodology.
