The Department of Anthropology provides advanced degree programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy qualifications. Approximately 30 graduate students are currently enrolled. Our department embraces a comprehensive scientific perspective on human biology and behavior throughout history, rooted in ecological and evolutionary principles.
The graduate curriculum combines intensive academic study with practical field and laboratory research opportunities. Each student partners with a faculty mentor who assists in securing funding and developing joint research initiatives. Students also benefit from guidance by anthropology faculty and specialists across MU departments (including Biological Sciences, Ancient Mediterranean Studies, Integrative Anatomy, Public Health, Museum of Anthropology, and the MU Research Reactor), who serve as committee members and research collaborators. Our graduates have conducted successful research across field, laboratory, and analytical settings, securing positions in academia, higher education, cultural resource management, public health, and nonprofit organizations.
