The Doctor of Philosophy program in Behavior Disorders provides advanced education and research opportunities in the field of Behavior Disorders. Students design personalized study plans to achieve their academic goals and develop expertise for future research endeavors. The program expands upon previous graduate studies through specialized doctoral courses in special education, focused behavior disorders curriculum, and comprehensive dissertation work including preparation and defense.
Qualified applicants receive provisional admission to the program, are paired with an academic advisor, and must complete required foundational courses.
Following the completion of 9 credit hours - comprising 3 credits in quantitative methods and 6 credits in special education doctoral core classes - students must successfully pass a qualifying exam for full departmental admission. After passing this examination, students assemble an advisory committee and create a detailed academic plan. This committee must include a minimum of four graduate faculty members (with at least three from within the department and one external member). The academic plan outlines all necessary coursework and competency requirements to fulfill departmental expectations.
