In numerous ways, it intersects with conventional bioinformatics and computational biology while prioritizing the practical implementation of computational methods to benefit patients, particularly in personalized medicine. Our TBI program offers two specializations: Translational and Cancer Bioinformatics (TCBI) and Pathology Informatics (PI). TCBI PhD candidates will focus on computational techniques for disease diagnosis and treatment (also known as theranostics), whereas PI doctoral students will explore digital solutions to enhance Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Digital Pathology (DP), and advanced Whole-Slide Image (WSI) processing methods.
The TBI program is directed by faculty from Pathology and Anatomical Sciences, working closely with colleagues from the University of Missouri Informatics Institute (MUII), the Department of Health Management and Informatics (HMI), and the Department of Computer Science.
The University of Missouri (MU) stands out by providing access to an extensive range of on-campus resources, including the School of Medicine, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine, Bond Life Sciences Center, and University of Missouri Health Care. This close proximity enables seamless access to highly diverse, state-of-the-art facilities, fostering abundant interdisciplinary opportunities for translational research and education.
