The Philosophy Department provides diverse introductory courses at the 1000- and 2000-levels, 3000-level classes covering philosophy's historical development, and specialized 4000-level courses in areas like ethical theory, philosophy of science, and philosophy of religion. The 4000-level courses are led by faculty recognized nationally or internationally for their expertise in these philosophical fields. Upper-level classes maintain small sizes (typically 15-25 students), fostering close interactions with professors.
Philosophy majors receive individualized support from department faculty dedicated to outstanding undergraduate education. Each major is paired with a faculty advisor to guide discussions about academic planning at MU and address any challenges. Our current cohort of approximately 50 majors represents varied backgrounds and encompasses a broad spectrum of political and religious perspectives.
