This program awards a Bachelor of Science in Education focused on middle school teaching with a science specialization. After completing the initial certification requirements, you'll receive state approval to teach science for grades 5-9.
Admission to the University automatically qualifies you for Early Level status.
During Early Level, most coursework involves fulfilling general education prerequisites.
The curriculum emphasizes teaching methods for diverse developmental stages, while examining how cultural, political, historical, and economic contexts impact students, educators, and educational institutions.
Fieldwork Opportunities
Early Level includes these hands-on experiences:
Sixteen hours of classroom-based work, assisting students individually and in small groups under educator guidance.
Twenty hours of service learning through community programs (such as Big Brothers Big Sisters or Granny's House).
