The BA in Theatre with a Performance focus provides students with a comprehensive curriculum featuring progressive acting and performance courses. These classes delve into comedic and dramatic scene work, explore both modern and classical styles, and develop skills in physical movement, vocal techniques, and musical theater. Beyond performance fundamentals, students engage with theater history, script interpretation, directing techniques, stage fighting, improvisation, musical theater studies, theatrical makeup, narrative arts, folk traditions, experimental performance, literary adaptation, and social justice theater. Learners apply their classroom knowledge through diverse performance opportunities - ranging from faculty-led mainstage productions to student-driven performances and experimental workshops. Academic credit is available for participation in MU Theatre productions throughout the year, including collaborations with the World Theatre Workshop, MU's Applied Theatre research center, Missouri Playwrights Workshop, Larry Clark Actor's Studio, and the Troubling Violence initiative, plus summer professional work with our Repertory Theatre. Graduates of MU's Theatre program establish careers across the entertainment industry in major markets like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, working as performers, creative directors, production managers, musical artists, narrative specialists, and educators who inspire audiences nationwide through their passion for theatrical arts.
