The Master of Science program in Bioproducts and Biosystems Science Engineering and Management (BBSEM) offers comprehensive training in core scientific principles, engineering, and management to advance renewable bio-resource utilization, environmental sustainability, and national security while enhancing global competitiveness. Specialization tracks include Bioproducts Science and Engineering, Biosystems Science and Engineering, and Bioproducts Marketing and Management. The Bioproducts Science and Engineering track emphasizes the scientific and engineering foundations of sustainable biomass conversion into industrial and consumer bio-based products, covering applications such as green materials, chemicals, biofuels, bioenergy, biocomposites, bioplastics, adhesives, pulp and paper, and construction materials. The Biosystems Science and Engineering track equips students with physical science and engineering expertise to address challenges in biological systems, including water and soil conservation, livestock environments, food processing, machinery design, grain quality, safety protocols, renewable energy systems, and waste management. The Bioproducts Marketing and Management track prepares graduates with interdisciplinary skills in liberal arts, science, communication, product development, and the commercialization of bioproducts.
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.00.
A bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, the physical or biological sciences, or a related field from a recognized U.S. or international university, is preferred. Applicants should have a performance level of at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 grading scale) on previous academic work required for a degree.
