The production systems specialization offers distinctive and engaging opportunities to acquire interdisciplinary skills crucial for careers in livestock management. Students will learn to address challenges in areas like animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and food safety/quality. Through collaboration between Animal Sciences faculty and experts across the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine, students gain access to a diverse research network for graduate studies in animal production systems. The program utilizes both university-operated and partner livestock facilities. Research topics span statistical process control in dairy/swine operations, sustainable low-input systems, dairy crossbreeding, alternative poultry production, animal behavior studies, beef cattle management, and farm-level decision-making tools with environmental and food safety implications across all livestock species.
