The MA in philosophy is tailored for students and working professionals seeking to complement their existing qualifications with an advanced philosophy degree. Unlike most Master of Arts (MA) philosophy programs, ours isn't intended as preparation for PhD studies, but rather offers graduate-level coursework and research opportunities for professionals from other fields. Individuals aiming for an academic career in philosophy should consider applying directly to our PhD program. This MA is particularly well-suited for University of Minnesota PhD candidates in other disciplines who wish to expand their philosophical knowledge. The program offers two tracks: Plan A requires a thesis, while Plan B replaces the thesis with extra coursework and a project.
Program length: 30 credits
Preferred: Broad undergraduate background that includes some philosophy coursework.
