The Department of German, Scandinavian, and Dutch (GSD) offers a Germanic studies program renowned for its cross-disciplinary exploration of literature and culture. This program prepares students to become innovative researchers and effective educators through comprehensive coursework examining the literary traditions and cultural landscapes of German-speaking and Nordic regions. Participants collaborate directly with professors committed to academic advancement, pedagogical expertise, and cross-field partnerships. The program provides MA and PhD options, enabling students to customize their academic path according to personal goals and interdisciplinary pursuits. Learners may specialize in German Studies (MA, PhD), Germanic Medieval Studies (MA, PhD), or Scandinavian Studies (MA) by fulfilling designated course requirements in their chosen concentration.
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.50.
Other requirements to be completed before admission:
BA or equivalent in German, Scandinavian, or related field. Students are usually admitted to the PhD program, but the MA must be completed first. Applicants must have fluency in German or a Scandinavian language.
