Physics explores the essential nature and behavior of matter at its most basic level. The program offers research opportunities in both experimental and theoretical domains, covering fields like astrophysics, cosmology, biophysics, condensed matter physics, particle physics, nuclear physics, planetary science, and physics education. Students can also pursue interdisciplinary studies combining physics with astrophysics, biological sciences, chemistry, materials science, various engineering disciplines, or the history of science and technology. For those aiming to become independent researchers in academia, industry, or government labs, pursuing a Ph.D. is the optimal path. During doctoral studies, students transition from classroom learning to conducting original research. They engage in cutting-edge physics projects, present findings at conferences, and publish in academic journals. This journey transforms students from answering established questions to formulating their own inquiries and developing innovative solutions.
Anyone who has or will obtain a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a comparable degree from an officially recognized college or university outside the U.S. may apply for graduate admission.
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.50.
